Welcome to Guiding at Stockton Brook.

These are our Leaders

Home

Almost all adults in Guiding, including uniformed Leaders, are volunteers - that is, they give their time freely.

Each Unit has a Leader who has overall responsibility for their section, she is the Guider.
She works with other Adult Leaders in her unit to plan  activities which members take part in.
She is assisted by a team of Trainee Leaders, Unit Helpers and Young Leaders who all help to run the activities.

The services of others are often sought for instruction in particular activities such as Walking, Canoeing, Kayaking, Archery, Orienteering and a wide variety of sports ......
The Guiding Section currently has the following Leaders:-....

Training

To become an Adult Leader, you need to be over the age of 18 and take the Guiding Adult Leadership qualification (rather like an NVQ);
whilst taking this qualification you are a Trainee Leader who is assigned a Mentor, but is also guided by the other Guide Leaders until she gains her 'Warrant'.

If you do not want to do this training/ or until you are ready to take on this responsibility,
you can help out at meetings as a Unit Helper (over 18's), or help as a Young Leader (14-18 years of age).

Girl Guiding UK is always looking for willing helpers, and potential future leaders
because without them the Girls cannot experience the enjoyment of being a Guide, Brownie or Rainbow.
......................................................................If you are interested in helping you can contact the District Commissioner.

Meetings and Required Numbers

For a Rainbow Brownie or Guide Meeting to take place there must be the required number of Leaders v Girl ratios
Please do not drop your daughter off at a meeting and leave her without first checking that the meeting is taking place, and that the following criteria are met: -

Warranted Leaders are Rainbow Brownie or Guide Leaders or Assistant Leaders - photos shown above
From time to time Leaders Visit from other units in District, Division or County and occasionally we also host International visitors
A Trainee Leader is an adult Leader aged 18+ who is undertaking the Guiding Adult Leadership qualification
A Unit Helper is an adult Leader 18+ who wishes to help out on an occasional basis but who does not wish to commit to any more than a couple of hours a week occasional help.
A Young Leader is a girl aged 14 to 25  who is assisting in helping out with a unit. she must be counted in the Girl to adult ratios until she reaches 18.

Security and Safety

All our Warranted Leaders, Trainee Leaders, Unit Helpers and Young Leaders (over 16)
and regular instructors are CRB checked, without this they cannot take part in Scout and Guiding.

Their role is to plan a varied, active and enjoyable programme and to ensure that all activities are carried out safely and in accordance with Guide Association rules.

If you would like to speak to one of the leaders about your child's progress or any other matter related to Guiding at Stockton Brook,
either email us, telephone or call in on the appropriate meeting night for a chat.
