Waiting List

Helping Out

Stockton Brook have a waiting list for most of their units.

The Policy at Stockton Brook is that :-

1) We offer places to girls and boys moving up from one of our units Rainbows to Brownies, and Brownies to Guides or Scouts, Beavers to Cubs, Cubs to Scouts, Scouts & Guides to Explorers before offering a place to a non Member on our waiting list, as an existing member will have joined the waiting list for units above them when they join us.

2) The exception to this would be if the non member had been on the waiting list longer than the existing member had a place in our units. ie if a Girl joins our Brownies in the August and wishes to transfer to our Guides the following September she will have been on the waiting list for 13 months. However, if another Girl were on the guides waiting list for 14 months then she would be given the Guide place.

3) Where members are transferring from a unit within Scouting or Guiding within the same District, they would have to join our waiting list in the normal manner. This is because they can be expected to travel the few miles between units within the same District.

4) However, if a member is transferring from a unit from outside the District - by virtue of moving house (and would therefore have to travel further to maintain their place in Scout and Guiding) then a transfer would take place (Division or County) when a place in the unit they wish to join becomes available, and as though the member were moving from within the Group (as in 1 above)

Our Rainbow pack is very popular and meets on a Thursday.
We have
two popular Brownie packs meeting on a Monday and Wednesday nights.
Our
Guide pack meets on a Thursday.
We do not have a
Senior Section unit - this is not because of a lack of willing Girls ......              but No Leader
We do however, have an Explorers unit (Girls and Boys) whcih meet on a Monday night

With two Brownie packs feeding into one Guide pack this does create a bit of a bottle neck from time to time. However, there are times when Brownies do not want to join Guides or Guides leave because of School, Sporting, College and other commitments. So places do become available.

If places are not available at Stockton Brook we are in contact with other units in our District at Brown Edge and Endon where places may be available.

If you are moving house and your daughter wants to transfer to another unit within District, County or elsewhere in the Country then speak to/contact the Guide Leader as Girlguiding UK has a transfer procedure.

The rule is if your daughter wants to become a Rainbow, Brownie or Guide, get her name down on the waiting list, even before she reaches the age to join one of our units.

We are always looking for willing helpers; parents can offer us help in many ways:-

  • By paying subs and activity fees on time, which helps with our cash flow.
  • Parents often have skills they can offer as an item on our programme, this may involve you in a few hours here and there
  • Parents often have interesting jobs, activities who can offer the opportunity for a visit to our meeting place or external visit or activity: culture, sport, crafts, places of interest, or other activities.
  • You may have friends and acquaintances who could help!
  • Transport: external trips and activities mean we need to transport our girls, you can offer help in this way.
  • Occasional help at our meetings, or external activities: an hour or two
  • Some of our Unit helpers and leaders started as parents helping out and found they could not tear themselves away. ........

or you could take things further still ........

Volunteering

Volunteer to hep out on a more permanent basis......

In the UK there are 50,000 girls on waiting lists to join Guiding

For every 8 to 12 girls we need one Adult Leader.....
(There are different ratios  depending on age of members)
So your offer of help means that 8-12 more girls may get the opportunity to experience this great world of Guiding, eight to twelve more girls less on the Rainbow, Brownies or Guides waiting list.

If you are interested in volunteering,  helping out or getting a name down on one of our waiting lists speak to one of our Leaders or email one of our units using the adjacent contacts

If you are interested in finding out more or volunteering with another unit or more nationally

You can volunteer as  Leader, Assistant Leader, Unit Helper, Young Leader, or in many other ways:-
