On 1 February 2005, a new Scout district called Potteries North was created. This new district was formed as a result of a merger of two existing districts; Potteries Central district and Tunstall district. At the same time, two groups from the old Potteries Central district transferred to Newcastle district.

The Stoke-on-Trent & Newcastle Division consists of four Districts
working together to deliver Scouting to the young people of Stoke-on-Trent,
Newcastle & surrounding area. The Division is now one of only a few
remaining within the UK.
